Did You Know........That Moline IA tired the record of 92 degrees set in 1940, on September 22, 2007? ....That the lowest barometric pressure associated with the April 15-16, 2007 Nor'easter was 964 millibars? ....That on August 22, 1983 four hurricanes raged simultaneously in the Atlantic Ocean? Two of the hurricanes would make US landfall with New York City taking a direct hit from one and the other coming ashore in GA and SC on August 27, killing as many as 2,000 resident's. ....That the most destructive storm in Washington and Oregon's recent history roared ashore on Columbus Day, October 12, 1962. Morrison Bridge in downtown Portland had winds gusting to 116 MPH, 138 MPH winds at Newport Oregon on the coast and as unbelievable as it sounds winds gusted to 179 MPH according to a NWS assesment of a damaged anemometer at Cape Blanco. Seattle had winds to 78 MPH and 160 MPH winds on the coast. A total of 46 people were reported dead. This event will always be remembered by the people who lived through it. ....That the snowiest location in the United States is Paradise Lodge and Ranger Station located at 5,430 feet on Mt. Rainier WA? An average of 680 inches falls each winter sometimes accumulating a depth up to 30 feet. ....That in January of 1977 a cold wave hit the eastern United States and as far south as Florida? Minniapolis MN had a wind chill of -78 degrees and Cincinati OH had a wind chill of -25 degrees. It snowed in Miami Florida. A severe blizzard hit the last week of January bringing -60 degree temps and 30 feet snow drifts.
