Exclamation Skunked!

Can anyone tell me what bait is best to get a skunk into a live trap? My neighbor's dog got "skunked" early Monday morning! Three times! She wanted to play with it. She is a 1 year old shepherd mix that belongs to his sister, his 7 year old golden was smarter, she stayed out of the line of fire. My neighbor said his living room and bed smelled like a skunk had walked through the house! He got something from the vet to deoderize the dog and has gotten a handle on the house oder. Wow!

Well....being we had to pay "Trapper Bob' handsomely for trapping the 3 skunks, 2 opossum, and 2 raccoons early this last spring....I paid close attention to what HE used for bait!

He put fried chicken and marshmallows in that contraption! Good luck!.....Pam

i can imagine the neighbor isnt having company over anytime soon....
i remember sitting at a stop sign some years ago and a skunk decided yo try to cross the road at about the same time i was about start going....and as i revved the engine up to scare it off....the bugger sprayed the car and i happened to have the vent/air going full blast and the smell lingered for nearly a month.....wooooosh!
what i want to know is why the neighbor let a dog with designer perfume just sprayed on it go about the house...??

For some odd reason, most animals like skunks and possums just love dry cat food and they also love peanut butter and/or apple slices.
That poor dog though. I remember as a kid growing up in the boonies when our family dog decided to try to play with a skunk....the skunk always won and the dog got a bath in tomato juice.

IF you can stand the smell to get close enough to the animal that's been sprayed, AND hold them still long enough to douse them with tomato juice, it's pretty darn effective. Of course, after their bath or hosedown, you can almost guarantee that they are going to run and make a mad dash to roll in something.
