Default It's the first day of Fall

Yes, I'm afraid summer is over. The cool nights have withered my tomato plants, and the sun is setting earlier in the evening. This is such a beautiful time of year. Trees are beinning to show some color here & there.

Well the clock and calendar say it is autumn but the weather here in Lakeland says it is still summertime.Temp this morning was 78 degree feels like of 81 with 87% humidity in the air. I am soaked to the skin by the time I get off my morning crossing duty at 8:15 am. Rain trees are starting to bloom and they usually bloom in fall so I guess eventually fall will get here but the cooler weather will be later to arrive I am afraid.

Thank goodness summer is over!!! This summer was so humid and so buggy it was hard to enjoy.

I'm really enjoying the cooler weather. Now if some of that humidity would go away it would be even better.

We are getting our driveway sealcoated today so I need to pull out all the petunias that are overlapping the belgian blocks. It's a shame. They look so pretty filling in the area between the dusty millers and spilling a foot or more onto the blacktop. Oh well.

It's only 93 days until Christmas!! Woo Hoo!!!

Pat is talking about Fall, Deb is talking about Christmas -- Awk! Where did the time fly?!! I plan to work out in the yard this afternoon to see if I can finish up some 'summer' projects.

The weather has been milder here lately. Highs in the 70's, nice & cool at night. I can see a real change in the plants & trees in just the last week.

Have an awesome autumn, Thumbies!

We are getting fall leaf changes already!!! My white birches have started to turn gold. There are several maples coloring up and I found a deep mahogany red maple leaf in my yard (I don't have any red maples myself, only yellow/gold colored ones. The woodbine is turning, fall grasses that change a golden amber or dusty mauve are coloring up.

A big change from last year when we got barely any color change and still had green leaves in November. It wll be a pretty fall if this keeps up.

Meanwhile, my annuals, true to form, are thriving the best they have since they were put in. I have more flowers now than I did in July and August. They always do this, it seems. Just before frost comes, they reach the point I wanted them to be at in July. LOL.

Guess what? My grass in the front yard is green again!!! I got this grass seed from Home Depot before the rains came a few weeks ago. It's called "Smart seed". I was out in the pouring down rain spreading grass by hand. Little did I know that this "Smart Seed" was covered with some type of dye or coating. When I came into the house I was soaking wet and my right had was a beautiful shade of blue!!! This product may help me with the red thread and multiple other problems I've had in my front lawn. It was more expensive but may be worth it. It's supposed to need less water. Has anyone heard of this?

My Brugmansia is blooming up a storm. My ferns on the side of the house are finished and I pulled out all my zinnias. My grass and flowers look better than they did this summer. I tied up several of my ornamental grasses so they look like hay stacks and all I need are my pumpkins and maybe a few mums. Most of my neighbors have decorated of Halloween. (Orange lights, scarecrows, skeletons and pumpkins everywhere) I LOVE THE SMELL OF FALL!!!!!!

The days are still warm here, up to the low 80's, but the humidity has left, thankfully. There is only a hint of color appearing around the area here, but after all the rain we got after 2 hurricanes (remnants of them) they are calling for a gorgeous show of color this year. Hopefully I'll have some time to get out with the camera and snap a few pics. Last year, as soon as the colors came on, a harsh wind and rain appeared and washed Fall away.
The evenings have been gorgeous with the cooler weather and all the cats love to come out when we are sitting in the swing to play and be petted. Sleeping is awesome without the AC running and the slider open.
From what the old timers and the Wooley Worms are predicting, it's going to be a very bitter cold winter here with very little snow. Guess I'd better get out to the herb patch and get it situated for the season changes as well as pull up any stray tomato plants that might be trying to produce without any luck.
Have a wonderful fall everyone and enjoy the beauty of nature!

Our leaves are coloring up here too. Most are still on the trees and looking pretty! This morning the weather summary for the area listed International Falls as "37 and snowing" !!! In Septenber, too soon!
Our local area has had a fall event this weekend. It is the Voyagers Rondevieux -- a reenactment of the fur traders getting together in the fall to trade for winter supplies. They had an old cannon, sword fighting by "Red Coats", and vendors with food and goodies to sell. They had quite a time setting up for it -- rain and storms much of Friday and Friday night. Yesterday was cloudy, but at least it was dry!
