Default New Bunny Nest Now???

I think we may have some reproductively confused bunnies. They have flattened out a hollow in the grass between my circular drive and the street. It is just about in the middle of the (totally guessing here) 20' X 40' grass area. The grass has been pulled from the ground and flattened, the earth beneath it has been "fluffed" and as of this morning the nest is half filled with clumped bunny fur.

We've had nests before but usually the nest is in an out of the way spot, partially or totally hidden, and the baby bunnies are born in the spring. We only see the bunnies in the nest from the late, late afternoon on.

This nest area is just across the drive from a big yew where I know bunnies hang out. They've been there for years which is the only reason the yew is still there. At least I think it's a yew. They have made little paths in the dirt just under the lowest branches and you can see little tunnels inside the bush.

I've found a cat lurking on my property and we keep shooing it away. Emma is great at "get the pussycat." She's all bark, no bite, but her fussing, whining, twirling, and high pitch barking sure does make the cat scoot!

So, should we be on the lookout for babies?

Yes! Rabbits can have babies any time the weather is still warm. They could breed year round if they wanted but food is hard to find in the winter so for some reason they don't get together then.

Sounds like you are the proud grandparents of some baby bunnies! Once they pull the furr out, it's only a matter of hours. Congrats!
