Talking My birthday present is sprouting!

Goline gave me an AeroGarden (with 7 little pots of herbs) for my birthday and the purple basil is sprouting after two days! It's a pretty cool thing....don't know if I like the lights being on for 16 hours a day, but it sure helps with the winter blues!

That's pretty quick for basil germination Freddi! Sounds like a fun adventure in indoor gardening!

The kids have some experiments under way using herbs...mostly basil. One fella who seems TOO interested in hydroponics has worked all school year on some bucket crops. I have several thoughts about why he wants to be a hydroponic expert.....................pam

Yes, petal*pusher, I was really surprised as the little label on the basil said 4-7 days...but the thyme had tiny leaves yesterday and it's label said 7-10 days! There's a third one sprouting this morning too! The two compact fluorescent lights are on for 16 hrs. a day and keep it bright and warm. I'm hoping to get a nice crop so I can make some homemade salad dressings.

Default What fun!

Freddi, I usually start my seeds in the basement under lights, late February or early March. I've had good luck with herbs too. Last year I had a bountiful crop of basil, and I still have batches of pesto in the freezer.

Five of the seven little "cuplets" are sprouting. I hope they grow really quickly because I'd like to start some lettuce and maybe some tomatoes. Anyone have a good seed source?

I pinched some of the herbs yesterday and used them in an onion, ****ake and oyster mushroom (with dark vermouth) saute to go with our grilled lambchops! It was so warm (24!) out on the porch, grilling was fun! The basil, chives and thyme are doing the best. What I really want to start is lettuce! (Oh, that is so funny! I just previewed my post and saw that I can't post the name of the mushroom cause it starts with a 4-letter word! LOL! So let's see....."poopake" mushroom?)
