| | The Lilly...more info wanted. Awesome blooms though!!! | | Ok...I know that most people love Lillies when they bloom.... and I know I have 3 gorgeous ones blooming, but am in search of some variance in colors. Can anyone point me to a good and reputable source for getting some more lillies? I have 3 lighter shades ranging from white to stargazers...and then a couple of purple/yellow mixtures that ...um...ok, I'm forgetting things and the names of these two I did forget. LOL
Here's a sampling of what I have so far. Also, are there any that actually bloom deep into the fall time??? I'm in zone 5.
Thanks in advance for your help. I L-O-V-E coming here and reading about the different plants/animals/etc. I'm finding tons of info!
Thanks Pat...for recommending this site!

| | Elaine,
Your first picture is of Lilium lilium the Lily, the second flower is a daylily of the species Hemerocallis. Which daylily it is I can not tell you with out knowing who hybridized it . If you want to know more about daylilies, check out the website of the American Hemerocallis Society. You are located in Region 2 where there a lot of people who grow daylilies. Here are some names and addresses and phone number you can check out . Please tell them that a Region 12 member of the Tampa Bay Daylily Society recommended them to you

| | Elaine, this is more than a gardening group, this is my extended family! I'm glad you like it here, I just knew you'd fit right in. Next thing you know, you'll be a member of the Daylily Society with Julia. I have some similar to the picture you posted. Darn, I wish I could remember all the names of mine too. My pink Stargazers are giving off a wonderful intoxicating scent now.

| | Elaine, my favorite lily are my true tiger lilies. Tiger lilies bear no seeds and reproduce vegetatively by little vegetative bulblets that grow at the leaf axils. They have a "turks cap" form of the flower. I like all the other "turks cap" style lilies too. But my Tiger lilies are descendants from a patch my mother had, so they are my preferred ones as I remember them from my childhood.
They are the kind of lilies that make me think of elves and fairies with their nodding blooms with the recurved orange red petals spotted with brown, very, very long protruding stamens
There are some pictures in this wikipedia entry about Tiger Lilies. NOTE, these are NOT the daylilies that are called Tiger lilies in some parts of the country and also known as "ditch lilies". Lilium lancifolium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Here is a picture of mine tiger lilies2 pictures from gardens photos on webshots
Here's another one that shows the bloom close up and the little bulblets

| | Those are my favorites too Dee! My patch expands avery year...now I'm even finding them in other gardens...(must be those birds are carrying those beautiful little black bulbils!)
I brought 3 plants from Mom's property when we emptied her big 'ole farm house...I was surprised none of my soblings were interested in them. The original came from Grandma's in Berkey, Ohio. (my cemetary iris came from Berkey too!) Beautiful Tiger Lilies from Mom's pictures from flowers photos on webshots
They're in full bloom right now...tons of bulbils falling off all over...I plan on gathering some up to bring to Karan's.
A friend gave me several varieties of day lilies also...and after 4 years, they're beautiful!...........p

| | Petal Pusher if you have pictures of your daylilies, please post them here. I would love to see them. Also the word daylily is now spelled as a single word not two words . The American Hemerocallis Society is the governing body that regulates the registration of new and future new varieties . It also recommended that daylily b e spelled as one word.
