Default I'm worried about Samiam

Has anyone heard from her recently? I know she can't access the boards from work, & her new grandaughter keeps her occupied, but she lives in Texas, and tonight Ike is expected to slam into the coast. I found a map of Texas, does anyone know exactly where she is, & does anyone else here live down there? Jackie?

We've been thinking about Susan, too, Pat. She lives in Harris County.
I'll send her an email and hopefully we'll hear from her.

I am praying that Samiam has evacuated and is in a safe place.

Here's Susan's response to my email this morning, all is well, thank God.

Good Morning to you,

I started to stop and send off a quick update before I packed up and left but instead I unplugged the computer and set it up on top of the desk to hopefully keep it dry just in case.

It's coming straight into Galveston and the storm surge expected at my house was way too high for me to stay so I'm at a friends house up around Alexandria, La. The had a mandatory evacuation at noon yesterday but I didn't get out till 2:00 this morning. Even coming this direction it took us about 6.5 hrs to get here instead of 4. Still better than going towards Dallas, San Antonio or Austin. Have no idea what I'll find when I get home....trying not to stress too much about it. Kristy, Dave and Blakely went to his parents house on the other side of Houston. They should be ok other than wind, rain and possible power outage but they have a generator so they'll be ok.

Wonder what Nick, Ben and Laurie are thinking seeing the tides at Galveston on tv. That's exactly where we went when they came down to visit.

There's nothing I can do so I'll just deal with whatever happens.

If you would share this with the group and let them know the cat, dog and I are safe.

Oh, I almost forgot we came through a town called Forest Hill here in La. and it was nursery after nursery after nursery. They told me it's the nursery capital of the United States. A bright ray of sunshine in a dreary day!

Love to all.
Susan

Let's all say a prayer for everyone there. The latest from the weather reports was that they are expecting and 18 to 20 foot storm surge. That is nasty! I have dealt with Lake Erie surges with a cottage on the shore there -- not that high, and they are bad. Water is incredibly powerful. In our high surge storms there it was common to see boulders rolled across yards and the road and the yards behind the road -- about 100 + feet. And that was without a hurricane! I can't imagine the peoples' thinking when they decide to stay and "ride out the storm". I'm glad Susan left for a safer place! Take care Susan, you and your family will be in my prayers. Here's a guardian angel for all in Ike's path.

Thinking of you Susan, and Jacke, too, if she is close to the coast.

It sounds like the whole coast of LA and most of Texas is going to get huge surge from this.

I heard its expected to landfall at high tide, too, AND that this tide is the highest one of the whole year!!

They have the estimates up to as much as 25 feet of surge last I heard and it will last a long time, be relentles. Susan, I hope you are WAY up in LA, away from the coast, cause the LA coast is going to get surge and battering, too. Its so BIG.

Last I checked the size it was still a CAT 2 but a strong one and they figured it might get to CAT 2 before landfall. But still they think the flooding and surge damage will be the worst. Stay safe gals!!

Default Me too!

I've been thinking about her all night - we've been watching Ike because we're down the shore and noticed yesterday that he was headed straight for Susan! Yikes.

From Susan, and not good news:

Date: Sunday, September 14, 2008, 9:11 AM

Well, this is what I know so far....A tree has fallen on top of my house. Thereis damage to the front, side and I don't know how big the hole is on theroof. There was so much debris in front that the neighbor couldn't get acloser look. Part of the fence is down in back. I was going to try to get backso that I could go inside and see exactly how bad the damage is but the roadsare not open in order for me to do that. Also the street behind me is flooded. Now for the really good news.....it's raining. Suppose to be 60% today andtonight. I've talked to my insurance agent and he said don't try andcome home because it looks like a war zone right now. He said we'll dealwith the damage when things calm down. It's killing me to sit here andworry. Kristy, Dave and the baby went to his parents house out in Tomball because theyhave a generator. They thought they'd be ok......generator didn't work. Haven't been able to get a hold of them since yesterday morning. We're going to church this morning in Pollock, La. Thought that was thebest place to be. Thought I had turned this all over to God but seems I'vetaken it back. Time to give it back to him. I'll keep you posted as best I can.lovesusan
