Joan has a new image, I have always heard that we dress like the Michellan man up north in the winter. Down parkas do make everyone look like round balls.
The chili and homemade soup both sound good. And both go great with home made bread. Another goodie for the cold weather is hot mulled cider. Sounds like we could have a good winter warm up party!
We are down to 21 inches of snow on the ground. Other than the one snow storm, we haven't had much. But the warmer temps and rain that mixed in have made for icey ruts and bumbs in the snowcrete that was left behind.
My dog Wesley is doing much what Ernie is doing. He decided when the snow was deep during the storm that he would just stop right outside the back door. Then it got so cold -- our eind chills were in the -25 to -40 range. Now we have yellow ice right outside the back door. As a friend of mine said, "At least it is outside!" Oh well, the spring thaw will solve that.
Stay warm!!!

Beth & Janet, I hope your heater is fixed now. Janet, I'd steal that cute robe too! Lumara, sounds like your heat pump needs a check up. We had to replace a coil in ours in autumn -- I'm so glad now that we did it then.

Skywatch, no snow for us either this time around (fine with me after our ice storm a few weeks ago). However, it's absolutely blizzard like in the NC mountains. It was -5 there with the windchill added in at noon today.

Chili, watching football & playing cards are on the menu for tomorrow. Time to snuggle up!
Your icy mix must have stayed around then. Here in Raleigh a rain changeover quickly took care of any white that we had.

Looks like 50s for highs by next Wed. through Fri. here in Raleigh ...this is Jan.?

We are forecast to stay below freezing all this week too. Thank goodness it hasn't been so cold I've had to zip my coat, I don't know if the zipper still works. Yeh, I'm a nutjob. I never zip or button a coat unless the temps are below zero. When I'm up and moving around I get too hot.

The sun, the sun! Today for a brief half hour we actually had glorious sunshine! The sunset was so pretty. But a clear sky means the temp will be dropping. No wonder the ducks were trying to get into the shed before dark.

BTW, my coat has a zipper and snaps! 3 years I have worn it, 2 expeditions to Alaska and many many trips outside in the cold and I just realized it had snaps.

I am sitting here in Lakeland freezing! It is currently 31 degrees and will get colder as the night goes on. Taking the dogs out for a short walk , it was very cold. I had on a sweat shirt on, another sweatshirt jacket with hood, and my Columbia Parka on top of that. Good thing there was no wind blowing or I would have had frostbite on my fingers.

Last night on the neews they showed video of ice covered oranges on the trees and strawberry plants covered with frost. I feel for the growers, to face losing a crop like that is about like losing a job.

ETA: bright and sunny here. Not a cloud in the sky, so where is the snow coming from??????

I saw that TV coverage too Rhonda...made me so sad for those growers....and US for the grocery store price increases!

Cold, cold, cold here too...goes right thru ya...and there's about 5" of snow from a few days ago...that has a nice slippery top! Bein' SO careful how I walk across it. The classroom was 60 this a.m....sure hope that boiler gets checked out...3 greenhouses and this classroom depend on it!

Last year, on MLK day...I came in to a frozen greenhouse....must be the time of year.

Beth...love that you posted a pic of our Janet! Keep toasty everyone!....Pam
