Default Help with Brugmansia

Karan mentioned hers in another thread, and I've been wanting to ask for some advice on keeping mine through the winter. I'm limited on indoor space, and so far I moved it into the garage which is not heated. Our rear garage door allows alot of sunlight to hit it in the afternoon. I grew this from seed last winter & it's reached about 4 ft in height, but no blooms yet. Our nights have been so cool, I was afraid to leave it out. So, should I cut it down & leave it in the garage, bring it in to the warm but dark basement, or let it remain as big as it is? I have a few daturas in there too, that were rewarding me with beautiful purple blooms, but the seed pods haven't ripened yet.
I brought a Passion Flower vine that grew from seed into the house. That is sitting in a sunny window & I hope it lives through the winter.

Pat
I bring mine into the garage every winter. My garage is inside the house but the temps go down to about 40° in there and it has the standard garage door windows. I water it about once a month during the winter. Mine is still blooming so I'll wait till I cut down all my perennials for the winter and cut it back to about 2 -3 feet. They're pretty hardy little devils and in the Spring you'll see it popping new growth. I've kept mine this way for the past 6 years. I love it!!

Thanks Karan. My garage is detached, not heated at all. I'm afraid it's too cold out there. I lost my mandevilla one year, even though I wrapped up the entire pot for insuluation, and put it up on the workbench. I guess I'll have to take my chances & bring it inside.

I think your basement will be fine.

Pat, you could try a grow light on a timer in your basement. I used to grow house plants with just one small flood grow light in my office that had no windows at all. It was quite a thrill to see African Violets blooming in that dark space.

The Brug just goes dormant. My garage is pretty dark.

Thanks again! Gaag, I started all my seeds in the basement under flourescent lights, so if I think I will spring for a grow-lite for this year.
