| | First frost and freeze warning of the season | | Well, here it is the first freeze and frost warning of the season! About 3weeks early, even for us. Here near the lake, not much of a problem, we are still above 50 at 3 am, but away from the lake --- ouch!
... Freeze warning remains in effect from 1 am to 8 am CDT
Monday...
A freeze warning remains in effect from 1 am to 8 am CDT Monday.
Overnight lows are expected to fall to the 28 to 32 degree
range... with a period of 2 to 3 hours of readings below the
freezing mark. The area from the Iron Range north to the Canadian
border... including much of of The Arrowhead away from Lake
Superior... will be affected. Low lying areas may see temperatures
drop as low as the mid 20s around sunrise. Temperatures will
rebound into the 40s and 50s by mid morning |

| | Oh no! Already?! We've had a few nights where temps dropped below 50º, which spells doom for our tomato plants. where did the summer go?

| | WOO HOO!! I'm just glad it's coming to an end. I hate the summer weather. Hot, hazy and humid ~ yuck. When the temps go over 70* I melt and the humidity makes it tough to breathe with my asthma.
Ahh, Autumn. Cooling temps, new sweaters, school begins, pumpkins, fall festivals, apple deserts, mums, gorgoeous falling leaves ~ beautiful.
The best part ~ it's only 121 days until CHRISTMAS!!! |

| | What?!!! It's still August -- even in Duluth! And Deb is talking about Christmas! Let's slow down a little. Autumn first, please.

| | The stores here are putting out their Christmas stuff now. They should have to wait until after Labor Day. I just planted a fall crop of green beans and the peppers are just now looking good. Sounds like I better get some sheets ready. |

| | Well, we bottomed out at 46 where I live, near the lake, the airport got to 42, Superior got down to 39, and the "Winner" was Evelyth -- they got down to 32!
I agree with Deb -- good bye to heat and humidity! I won't miss them. And as the frost comes, the mosquitos and pollen go -- I won't miss them either! We usually don't get our first frost and freeze until mid September or early October. Looks like fall may be coming in early this year. The local news reported that the Farmer's Almanac predicts a snowy January and February here for the coming winter. And I was coming Wesley,my Aussie boy, a couple of days ago, and he seems to be starting his seasonal shedding already.
And, as I channel surfed tonight, I found QVC is doing Countdown to Christmas. The seasons are changing. |

| | Wait a minute, you can have the heat and humidity back We are still having temps in the mid 90's and humidity levels in the 70-80 percent. It is so muggy out side that that it makes every one who has to be in it irritable. My hair needs cutting and it drives me nuts blowing in my face or getting under my collar when it is hot. This morning it was a stupid fly that bugged me to death on the crossing. It wouldn't leave me alone . I am ready for some cooler dryer air to move in to FL real soon.

| | I am NOT ready for the freezes or the change of the seasons! I'm still canning and putting up the fruit and veggies! As for the cooler temps, I don't mind them cooling down since we've had it pretty hot and humid the past couple of weeks, but I'm not ready for the summer to be over with. The kids are already back in school so once again, quietness has come home.
When fall hits, it's a sign that gardening chores pick up to get things ready for the winter. It also means that the days for playing in the dirt are becoming limited. I do not like the winter months as it's so bitter cold here and unpredictible weather wise. I used to live in Alaska and trust me...after 11 years of 8-9 months of winter, I do NOT like seeing it approaching.
I work retail and we've been receiving a lot of Christmas items in already but we won't put them out until the end of September. We have to get the heating area set up first with all the corn and wood stoves along with all the piping, parts, and accessories in the same area. After we get that set up, then Christmas stuff and toys go up. Yup, we are already receiving the toys by the truckloads. This also signifies a bad time of year for me. Among the other hats I wear at work, I'm also in charge of Loss Prevention and shoplifting will be at an all time high with the way things are now. Where I had only 2 or 3 incidents a week, I'm now prosecuting up to 10 a week. It will only get worse as the holiday season approaches.
