Default Carolina Mantis, FOUND!!!

Found one in my garden at the guest house today. It was a mature male. We have lots of the big Chinese mantids all over (a couple were busy in the milkweed patch today) but this is only the second time in my life that I have seen the native Carolina. Rebekah and I took lots of pictures then put him back and quit bothering him. I hope he finds a girlfriend.

I'm amazed that you find such interesting insects, Rhonda. And on top of that you can identify them! I can't wait to see some pictures.

He was very uncooperative. I should have stuck him in the fridge for a few minutes to calm him down but I wanted to get him back to where we found him ASAP.

No he wasn't eating. I think he was looking for a honey. It's that time of year. I hope he did find a mate. I would love to see more of this kind in my gardens.

Nice pics. Thanks! Now I know to look for them! I assume they are here in Carolina, but I've never seen one like that.
