Default Baby Bunnies

Background Info:
I am in management at a local farm/feed store and we sell lots of live babies like chicks in the spring, bunnies all year round.....well, a lady had to get rid of her rabbits and she brought 6 of them in for us to sell. She guaranteed that none were pregnant, diseased, etc. About 3 weeks later, I notice tufts of furr being pulled out and thought "OMG...I gotta move this one. She's gonna pop." Which she did later in the evening. First litter to be born in the store. Me being the softy that I am, took Ma and had her in the back room where she delivered 6 gorgeous babies. One of which, ended up looking as if it were handicapped. The front feet/legs looked more like fins and stuck way out to the side. I took care of mom and babies and went in on my days off to clean the cage and feed/water them and to hold the babes to tame then knowing we'd sell them. The boss told me that I could have a bunny for free since I had cared for them and nobody else had. So, after buying the hutch and all the accessories, I ended up bringing two of them home. The handicapped one and a sibling, which I was assured that both were female. Well......... Thunder was NOT a female! Lightning was though. (Have you guessed where this is going yet?) Here it is August and Thunder & Lightning are the proud parents of 7 babies. All but one baby is black like the parents. The little brown one, Butterscotch, has a home waiting but I wanted to share a picture of them with you all as I know most are animal lovers and as we all know...the pets are just an extension to our human family and ARE very much part of our lives. Here's a picture of Butterscotch and the siblings.
Thunder also will be making a trip to the vet when I get back from Oregon next month.

They're so cute Elaine! Getting Thunder fixed is half the problem, unless the other 6 babies are adopted out too. I see why Butterscotch was already promised. She(?) stands out from the crowd, & gets your attention first. Are you keeping any of the litter? Danaus has had baby bunnies too!

Pat, I'm not keeping any of them. I have the feeling there will be one more litter by the time I get Thunder fixed, but there is never a shortage of people around the area that want tamed babies for pets. I wanted the two that I took but was a little upset that they had been sexed wrong. I know that at early ages it's difficult at times to tell one from the other but this woman assured me she was always right. HA HA HA... lol
Husband used to be in the rabbit business and chuckled when he saw the new ones. I can always put a sign out front and within a day, the other 6 would be sold and there would probably be a few happy children with new pets.

Awwww, there's nothing sweetier than babies! They are darling! Elaine, kudos to you for taking care of Ma & her little ones (and their little ones, and ...).

Those bunnies are ADORABLE!!! Are they Lionheads? Yes you could get the one fixed but a second cage is cheaper. Rabbits are extremely hard to sex until they are between 3 and 4 months old. Unless Rebekah falls in love with it and wants it, then it is a boy.

Lightning will continue to have false pregnancies after Thunder is fixed. My girls have false pregnancies frequently, even when they have been no where near the males.

So in other words, Lightning is still gonna pluck herself bald. LOL I couldn't believe the amount of fuzz she plucked out and she still had a ton more to go!
As far as what breed...I believe that they are just mutts. LOL Although they do resemble the lionheads. My vet has a special price that I pay for animals when I take them in to be spayed or neutered. I pay the same as the animal shelter does since I'm a frequent flyer there with my herd of cats. Now, this guy, Fuzz, he loves to sleep near the rabbit hutch and keep an eye on them from ground level. If any other cat comes around, he chases them off. He will also be making a trek to the vet within the next couple of months.
We live on a very busy road and since we have pets, we are an easy target for a dumping zone. Most dumped animals, we find a good home for them. There are those few that we do keep and then of course, we do have a couple of litters of kittens too. Next year, there will be no more kittens...until the next pregnant mama shows up on our doorstep. I can't help love them all!
