| | VB Tue 2/26 | | VB is on for Tuesday, with some fairly heavy snow expected in the Northeast. This may be our last really good VB day of the year, so be sure to get your entries in by 5z!

| | Shoot! I completely forgot. :( Overall, though, I'm very disappointed in the lack of participation in this contest over the last couple of weeks. Is there any reason for that? I would really like to know. I think this is a very exciting contest personally (much better than the first version of it from a few years back), but we just need more people! Unfortunately, attracting new people has never been my strong point. VB Location List for Tuesday, February 26:
SYR herasday (TWV)

| | I wish more people participated too, Kevin. I think the Christmas break was too long, though. It seemed to have some momentum going that got interrupted there. But its easy to be a back-seat driver. All I have to do is pick a spot...I don't have to keep track of everybody else's and run the game, too. Its been a funny year, too. I don't think anyplace had a real banger of a blizzard, really. There's been some strong storms, but quick and not really "blizzard" conditions. We haven't had any storms here I would consider a "blizzard" yet. And this one is going to be another odd one. May even go over to rain, they say and only about a foot of snow over two days even if it doesn't. I think that might affect the participation, too, the fact that there just haven't been any huge ones. I don't think we have even had one two foot storm around here and it seems to have been cold and windy when there was no snow, and warm and wet when there was snow. Its snowing here now steady, but its no "blizzard", that's for sure. ...more like greeting card snowfall, straight down, no wind, and not that cold. Not complaining, mind you.

| | "...only about a foot of snow..." Good gracious! That's more snow than I've seen over the last several years combined! :(
I think you're right about the Christmas break. That'll be eliminated next year, with the altered format. But, I think interest would have dropped off around that time anyway, with all the other stuff everybody has to do. That was the main reason for the break in the first place. I think I also started it too early. There just wasn't much going on in November; maybe people got bored of it early on.
We have had a lot of disappointing storms this year. I only remember one or two fairly decent ones. Most of the time, we look at forecasts for upwards of 10 or 12" of snow, then once the official data comes in, it's been more like 4 or 5".

| | Well then of course there was me who didn't notice it for a few weeks....Thought VB was some new vortex index codex you guys were talking about that I wouldn't understand anyway so didn't even bother to open the posts for about three weeks into the game. One of those "Oh, Duh!" moments when it finally hit me VB stood for Virtual Blizzard.
I don't know what SYR (my choice for today and chance to get into third place, maybe) is getting fifty miles west of here but in my driveway I've racked up six to eight inches so far and its still coming down heavy.

Strong winds were supposed to be coming up this evening with colder temps to cause "blowing and drifting snow" in the evening and overnight hours. Snow was supposed to be pretty much continuous into tomorrow but with most today, or possibly about half and half split between today and tomorrow.
Here, the snow is stopped completely for a few minutes sometime after sunset (not sure exactly what time) but then started back up heavier for about three to four hours. Right now, its light snow again, and its gone to dead calm. Almost spooky, in fact because this snow was very "sticky" and its piled up weird on even small twigs. I've got between two and three inches of snow piled up on little tiny quarter inch and even smaller twigs. Its piled up on everything that interrupted its drop in the slightest. LOL. Usually it would slip right off little twigs like that and just leave a little "frosting". I just measured a few flat, undisturbed, untreated areas on the deck and I'd say I have a solid eight inches right now in my backyard.
Its not like we had any freezing rain. But earlier the snow was wet, and so probably melted enough on the surface of the twigs to refreeze and "glue" it when the temps dropped a bit. They started the snow warning/advisories at 6 or 7 a,n, this morning and still have it running to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

| | Oh, nuts. I thought there would be more than that, and more wind. AND I was going to pick a spot for today (27th) too, but forgot. Oh well. Looks like today was about the last chance. It was fun.

| | We might have a chance on Friday...I'm really not sure yet. We'll have to wait and see. HPC has some heavy snow over the Erie area, but I checked their NWS forecast and it says a snow/rain mix.
I'm glad you enjoyed it...I know I always do. (Especially compared to the old format from a few years ago; I know you weren't in the contest then, but it was painfully boring.) Hopefully we can get more people next year. Thanks for hangin' in there and representing the TWV crowd!
