As you can all imagine, it has been a brutally busy week or so.* I caught 2 tornadoes in southern Manitoba on June 22, one of them the famous "Elie" (pronounced like "Ely") tornado.* The next day, Saturday, I had to come into the office and do a storm damage survey.* Because of this survey I rated the Elie tornado the first F4 in Canada since 1994.* It was amazing, the damage that occurred.
This survey was a double whammy to me, because on top of having to work on my day off, I also missed chasing what will be known here as the Pipestone tornado.* It was huge, and a long-lived one, to boot.* Based on the damage, I could only rate it an F3, as there was no F4-type thing directly hit by it.* No doubt you've seen the video of it, from the guys who got way too close to it.
The next 2 days were spent doing the damage survey from that storm, too.* Talk about tough.
Anyhow, the Minot, ND RADAR images are online from this, and you can see how it was a slam-dunk.
Things should calm down here now, at least for a while.* The U of M storm chasing course leaves 2 weeks from today.* In the meantime, Happy Canada Day!* :) :) :)

Nope, the storms were away from me.* Elie is about 25 miles west of Winnipeg, and the other one came maybe as close as 100 miles away from here.
We did have a bow echo go through last Saturday night, and winds about 70 mph at my place.* A few tree branches were downed, but apparently from that storm there was some baseball-sized hail in other parts of the city.
