The day initally began as a slight risk day with an emphasis on tornadoes...But with Tds only at a low 45...Moisture was scarce. I had wanted to go NE on 70 near the CO/NE border with hopes storms would fire there...But there was a cluster of storms around to the east...Storm motion was to the SE so, i was moving NE away from the storms. It soon became obvious that that was the only game in town, and i made a critical desicion to go after it.
The storm had some really intense looking cores despite its high base.
I could tell even before i made contact, it was going to be a heavy experience.
At this point, we were N of the storm looking S. We were heading into the core hopefully finding some action.
We got hit by some serious outflow...The winds were fish-tailing the back of the truck, and trees were bending over and branches were breaking off. The rain was falling very heavy, and there was also some small hail embeded in the core.
Pretty soon...The storm was really flooding the area. We came across this town, that had no power, and had some serious flooding going through their downtown.
Apparently, there was also some minor wind damage in the town.
We were on it for a while, and couldent follow it east because of the roads...That ended up being a good decision...We went south to a clearing and saw a weak isolated storm cell to the NW...This storm appeared to have a weak tornado with it.
Overall, it was a really good chase, and i enjoyed it...2006 was begining to look really good on paper, and on video for that matter...
