Default Funnel Cloud Video from July 29

I posted this in the Northeast forecasters section but I am not too sure if anybody saw it. I think I am the only one that looks at the Northeast weather forecasts. LOL. So I was just looking around here today and thought I'd drop it here in Stormchasers, too.

Anyway, this was back on July 29, but its interesting because its a video a guy caught on his cell phone camera of a funnel cloud forming. Also because its in NY State...not noted for tornados, but we do get some once in awhile.* The site is local new channel site and the video is still active, as well as the news report with the meteorologists looking at the guy's video. Its not the best quality of course, being on the cell phone. You need to have quicktime to view it, too. They have a link there for the quicktime if you don't have the version.

Here is a link to a video of funnel cloud formation in Utica, NY (Upstate Central) during severe storms that passed through Saturday, July 29, 2006.

The main video was captured by a cell phone camera of a guy driving on his way to work, and is kind of cool because the background sound effects are the car radio announcing a tornado warning, then cut to the classic rock music station which was playing "Burning Down the House" during the video, punctuated by the filmer saying "Oh, my God" a few times.* There is also a video of one of the local meteorologists reviewing the cell phone video and commenting on it at this link from the local tv station.

There werre no tornados spotted,* but this and some other reports/pictures of funnel clouds were seen.* It was a hellacious storm/storms, black as night at my house. All my solar lights outside came on in the early afternoon, it got so dark. There were lots of downed trees and some uprooted ones, too.

Kind of dissapointed in the video, as he was trying to show it while on air at the same time.* ???

You can't really tell and it could have been a lot better by the tv station to put it up by itself and do a green screen thing or just let him tlk in the background.

Spotter, I think you got the wrong link. There are two links. The video itself as it came from the camera is there, too. The top link is the news broadcaster explaining it. There is a separate link for the video directly. That one you have to have Quicktime for because its from the cell phone camera and that's the format. Its further down the page and the sentence starts "CLICK HERE for the video" and gives a different link. Second or third paragraph down, I think.

I agree, the other video showing the newsman showing the video while the camera was on him is not very good, but he points out the funnel cloud formation on there. That was supplemental. They have both links there and did show the video directly on the news at the time. It is still not the best quality since the guy was driving and filming the video from his cell phone. But you can see more of the cloud formations* on the actual video direct from the camera.* The clouds look like they are breathing, almost, and pulsing toward the ground, then pulling back up, then pulsing again. Also the video shows some awesome lightening, and as I said the car radio was playing the NE weather service tornado warning when the guy started the camera. You shouuld be able to hear the radio, the tornado warning and the song Burning Down the House playing after the tornado warning, if you got the right one. The the video is directly out the windshield of the car so you can see the road clearly and the clouds forming up ahead.
