Re: 3/31/07 Reports: IA | | Left home yesterday morning with quite a bit of entusiasm about the day. Made my way to target area of Indianola, IA. Picked up a inverter from Wal-Mart, and I was set to chase storms. Set in indianola for quite some time, waiting for storms from MO to get closer. None of those cells looked decent at all, but decided to move east to knoxville to intercept a cell that prompted a SVR warning in Wayne and Lucas Counites. Did run into some penny hail, but the storm had no structure whatsoever. Decided to jog back to the west, to just south of Des Moines, so we could be in a position to see some new cells coming up from SW Iowa. On the way there, we saw a barn that had it's roof blown off by straight line winds just east of Des Moines on SR 163. It landed in the east bound lanes of the highway. When we were on the hwy 5 bypass, just south of Des Moines, we saw a updraft that had a decent lowering on it just to our Sourthwest. As we got closer to it, it just fell apart. At this point, decided to call it a day and head home. Took no pictures or video this chase at all.
