Do you guys think the term waterspout should be removed and everything should be called a tornado? I personally think that it should stay the same.

If someone removes it then a dust devil would then need to be called a tornado.

no waterspout is a perfect name for a tornado over water....

and a dust devil should be changed to dustnado.....:P

the name should also apply to dustin if he ever does speed!!

its a tough debate but its basically just semantics. I would prefer to call a tornado that moves across a body of water a tornado for the sake of simplicity. That said, a typical summer waterspout forms by totally different means and many times they are not even associated with thunderstorms. They will simply form below developing CU as the updraft stretches a column of vertical vorticity. In that sense, they are very similar to landspouts. That said, a tornado is really very loosely defined and covers all of these forms.

I don't care. Waterspout works for me. Its better than saying "a tornado that is currently moving over water". My question is, when it goes onto land (as they do), then do you call it a tornado or " a waterspout that is currently moving over land" ?

Anyway, how you doin' Il Storm Spotter. Haven't seen you in a very long time. Seems like last time you were around you had been sick?

I am good. I will soon be getting laid off from my 5 year security career, so I been working as much as possible.

I am not so upset anymore because I can finally go finish my college and be more active in the Masonic lodge, two things ive been wanting to do for a while now!
