I think the tornado alley concept should be no more. It seems that Illinois (where I am) has been getting a lot of tornadic weather these past few years and IL isn't exactly part of T.A. according to NOAA imagery.

Opinions?

Tornado alley is only a rough estimate of where a majority of the tornadoes usually occur. Not every year will follow that exactly and really it isn't a set in stone thing, so it is open ton interpretation.

Yea, tornado alley is such a loose term. Every book and agency has a different map of where tornado alley is. There are areas of higher tornado concentration across MS/AL as well that rival the conventional tornado alley in tornado reports.

Either way, tornado alley is there because statistically and historically its where you can see the best tornadic setups. Illinois had a few years where it was active but I dont believe this year is anywhere near that. So it goes to show that every year is different but for the most part you cant say that OK,TX and KS are crap, thats for sure.

I suppose statistically it wasnt a good year but I can think of a lot of chases where a lot of people caugh mulitiple TOR's as in at least 3 or 4 on multiple dates. So all in all it wasnt that bad, I just couldnt make it to W KS or W TX this year, oh well looking forward to 2008. I'll be out there for sure.

I definitely do not think that this years chase season was "crap" lol just look at my website
There were a number of large and violent severe thunderstorm and tornado outbreaks across the country this year it's just to bad that most of the "good' activity wasn't in Iowa. (I'm pretty sure Josh will agree with me about this lol

I mean they "alley". I think tornado alley is a waste of thought....because it seems tornadoes are becoming more frequent in places outside the alley but then again, they can happen anywhere at anytime!
