Default 6/10/06 Chase- Comments and some questions for Dustin Wilcox

http://www.severechase.com/6-10-06.html

I found this one of the most interesting chase chase's from your website, an awesome looking supercell in your photo's there but I have a few questions from you from the site.

After watching a broad flat slowly rotating updraft base for a while it began to get more interesting.

A strong RFD was now really kicking up a lot of Dust, you could watch the dust be lifted up into the updraft.[/b]
What exactally is an RFD? I've never heard that term before and I did a google search on it.

Also I just wanted to say that, you did a really good job taking on the pictures with that specific chase. Given the area, and the extent of the dust that you mentioned, how much rain did you encounter from that particular supercell?

Thanks, Dustin

One of the more amazing scenes I have witnessed during that chase, to bad I didn't have my nice Camera equipment back then, the Hail in the clear slot was far fast spectacular, my chase partners HD video is awesome.

As for RFD its pretty important to not only know meaning but how to recognize and understand it, I would do some readin

To start Read through this powerpoint, there are also numerous other sources out there,

Thanks Dustin. Why did the dust get sucked up like that? It almost looked like the beginning of a tornado but obviously it was the RFD.

Edit: I just looked at the link you gave, I do understand it better now. O0
