Wow, I REALLY haven't been paying attention to tropical storms this year...have there been any hurricanes at all yet, Skywatch?

I know you are watching so I think there must not have been too much activity so far at all, or I would have seen you mention it.

Hi Dee,

So far no 'canes for the Atl/Car/GOM areas but the latest NHC forecast has Bill becoming a hurricane ...and possibly as high as Cat 3 status "down the road" and may pose a threat to Bermuda according to some wx models.

Also, either during late AM/or early afternoon today TS Claudette formed near the northern Gulf Coast of FL and is forecast to make landfall later and the latest path forecast has her remnants going to the Ohio Valley region and from there ...the models haven't gotten a handhold on yet.

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

A LARGE AREA OF CLOUDINESS AND THUNDERSTORMS CENTERED ABOUT 300
MILES NORTHEAST OF SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO IS ASSOCIATED WITH A
TROPICAL WAVE INTERACTING WITH AN UPPER-LEVEL LOW. EARLY MORNING
VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGES SUGGEST THAT THE WAVE HAS BECOME A LITTLE
BETTER ORGANIZED. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BECOME MORE
CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO AS THE SYSTEM
MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AROUND 20 MPH. THERE IS A HIGH
CHANCE...GREATER THAN 50 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A
TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. A RECONNAISSANCE
AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON.
INTERESTS IN THE BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS SHOULD
MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.

heard about the death in maine...:(
