Default possible tropical formation off the SE coast

per nat'l hurricane center...

SATELLITE PICTURES INDICATE THAT THERE HAS BEEN LITTLE CHANGE WITH
THE BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE CENTERED NEAR THE EASTERN DOMINICAN
REPUBLIC DURING THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS. HOWEVER...SURFACE PRESSURES
ARE FALLING IN THE AREA...AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE MARGINALLY
CONDUCIVE FOR ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT. THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL
TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AT ANY TIME DURING THE NEXT DAY OR
TWO AS IT MOVES SLOWLY TO THE NORTH OR NORTHWEST AWAY FROM
HISPANIOLA. HEAVY RAINFALL WITH POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING FLASH
FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE OVER THE AREA THROUGH TOMORROW.
INTERESTS IN PUERTO RICO...THE VIRGIN ISLANDS...HISPANIOLA...THE
TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS...AND THE SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS SHOULD
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AND PRODUCTS ISSUED
BY THEIR LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST OFFICES. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE
RECONNAISSANCE PLANE IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE SYSTEM.

cape verde season winding down....tropical systems tend to form off the SE
coast and the golf of mexico and carribean....here weeee go again

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
800 AM EDT WED SEP 24 2008

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BROAD AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE OVER HISPANIOLA HAVE DECREASED SOMEWHAT THIS MORNING.
THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE A WELL-DEFINED SURFACE CIRCULATION...BUT
ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS APPEAR TO BE FAVORABLE FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE
FORMATION AS IT MOVES GENERALLY NORTHWARD...AND AWAY FROM
HISPANIOLA...TODAY AND TONIGHT. THERE IS STILL THE POTENTIAL FOR
HEAVY RAINFALL AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES
OVER HISPANIOLA DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO.

2. SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED
ABOUT 250 MILES...400 KM...SOUTHEAST OF WILMINGTON NORTH CAROLINA
IS ACQUIRING SOME TROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS. THIS SYSTEM COULD
BECOME A TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL CYCLONE LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT AS
IT MOVES WESTWARD OR WEST-NORTHWESTWARD. THE LOW IS ACCOMPANIED BY
WINDS OF UP TO 65 MPH...100 KM/HR...TO THE NORTH AND NORTHWEST OF
THE CENTER. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING
STRONG WINDS...COASTAL FLOODING...HIGH SURF...AND DANGEROUS RIP
CURRENTS TO PORTIONS OF THE U.S. EAST COAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE
OF DAYS. SEE STATEMENTS FROM LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
FORECAST OFFICES FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND WARNINGS. AN AIR
FORCE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE
SYSTEM.

SYSTEM THIS AFTERNOON.

This storm is pretty strong. There could be hurricane force winds at the coast. We are expecting winds up to 35 mph here through tomorrow.

Miss Bobbie & SCcoaster, it's time to batten down the hatches again.

The winds were rather enchanting last night, when we opened up the house and let breeze in. But looking at our forecast, I wasn't keen on going to work today -- didn't want to be trapped in traffic with the wind whipping my little truck around. As it happened, I left early, and my truck did indeed get whipped around.

We've had heavy rainfall since noon and the forecast still calls for a couple of inches of rain. This is my husband's chess night, and I do NOT want to drive in this stuff!!! He can't go alone, so his compromise was for me to drop him there and he'd get a friend to bring him home. But that still puts me driving in the rain in the dark, and in his vehicle, a van. My night vision is not what it ought to be, and the pavement just reflects all the lights out there, none to my advantage.

I wonder if I could get him to take a cab....

Did he take a cab?

The winds were very gusty last night, but died down by this morning. It's raining nicely here today, not too hard or too fast.

Is the NC gas shortage effecting you Miss Bobbie?

No cab -- his buddy picked him up and brought him home again. Whew!

We're still getting a breeze and misty sprinkles here; Wilmington got about 4" of rain yesterday, and we have standing water in the yard. Even Hanna didn't do that! Branches are down all over town, and an oak limb broke off a tree right inside our driveway, and landed in two pieces alongside the van just as Ken was pulling in.

No gas problems here, and I don't understand why there are shortages elsewhere in NC. I filled my tank about 20 minutes ago and spent $41.55 for a hair over 11 gallons. I have NOT seen any lines at stations, nor limits on how much gas one can pump. 'Tis a mystery.

So glad that limb didn't hit your van or Ken! Hope you are drying out by now. We had rain from that system for a couple of days, but only received about an inch in total.

Your gas supplies must come in via ships verses pipelines. The shortage continues here.
