guys and gals, i got my ballot in today for the American Meteorlogical Society elections (president and councilor members for '08 thru '10)..

and i was just wondering something... besides what is enclosed with the ballots, anybody know these candidates personally or professionally? how are they away from the spotlight? are they generally personable? stuff like that... just stuff you may not know everyday about the people which may or may not affect how I or any other AMS member may vote....

for the record, here's who's running.......

for president: Thomas R Karl; and Alexander MacDonald

for councilor: Edward Johnson; Heidi Cullen; Jennifer Alexander; James Hurrell; Eric Baron; Timothy Spangler; Matthew Parker; and Richard Clark..

for the record, I have met with Eric Baron in passing at Penn state so I know a lot about him (a good guy, imho), and this chat place has talked about Heidi Cullen from time to time....

but what about everybody else??? just curious.... thanks...

*feels sick* That nut of a woman doesn't deserve to be on any kind of council.

I am curious, though...how do you get to vote? I've been an associate member, student member, or whatever it is for about 5 years and never heard anything about elections.

Okay, that's what I was wondering. That would certainly explain it.

you're a pro met and only an associate member of the ams? that seems odd... you should have gotten full/regular membership....

Well, I was an Associate Member when I joined back in high school; I'm a Student Member now. I just graduated back in December. But regardless, I've had a major career change since then and am now working towards becoming a teacher, and I'm not planning on renewing my membership this time around.
