An 8.2 quake struck off the western coastline of Indonesia. This was followed up by aftershocks in the 5's and a 6.0, which triggered a second tsunami alert. Only 3 fatalities have been confirmed thusfar.

A 9' surge was reported, but no damage. This is the same fault system which gave Indonesia the 9.1 quake and tsunami in Dec. 2004 which killed over 280,000 people.

They kicked it up to 8.4

Quite a jump.

There was a later 7.9 a bit further north and shallower which was a separate shock and not an aftershock. It's going to be years before that fault zone completes the readjustments after the monster 2004 shock.
