I took a flight to Greenville MS yesterday. Fascinating flight methodologically speaking so figured to share here as well.
Interesting landing approach to say the least. 200 feet AGL winds were right off the nose at 45 mph which makes my final approach loooonger and slooooower. It makes it look like I am going slower then normal which I am because of the headwinds. Without wind consideration, I usually come across the ground at 90 mph.
Back at Madison, winds were not quite that strong, about 30 to 35 mph 200 feet AGL again right off the nose.
I have heard and yesterday seems to confirm some validity that clouds with hard edges, the air around it is smooth, clouds with soft edges or "frayed" around the edges, the air is more turbulent.
Surface temperatures was 89 degrees yet at 7000 feet it was 57 wonderful degrees.
Amazing to me how much contrast 1000 feet in altitude makes in difference on view, Below dark thick looking clouds, yet above peaceful looking white clouds as I meander among them when descending and climbing through them. Below the clouds, needed everything strapped down, above them pristine smooth air.
VERY rare I encounter a flight like yesterday in the month of June with the high winds so low in altitude. It definately had a fall, winter or spring like feel to it.
Hope somebody enjoys this different perspective of enjoying and observing the weather
