PARKERSBURG, IOWA
Parkersburg Iowa was hit with a devastating preliminary EF3 tornado yesterday that killed 6 overall.... 2 in New Hartford and 4 in Parkersburg. The storm also injured 70 others as it completely leveled the town. Early indications are that more than 600 homes were damaged or destroyed with parts of the town completely taken off the map.
Reporters have said that the damage reminds them of the devastating EF5 tornado that crippled Greensburg Kansas a little more than a year ago. Not just streets, not just neighborhoods but the entire town of Greensburg was wiped out. So im sure you can imagine just how horrible of a scene it must be for the residents living in this town.
Most businesses along with the elementry school have been either damaged or destroyed. The high school also sustained severe damage to several classroomes and the gymnasium as the 1.2 mile wide tornado ripped through the town. The tornado was on the ground for a whopping 40 miles!
