PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
555 PM EDT SUN APR 29 2007

...A NEAR-RECORD RAINFALL DEFICIT FOR MARCH THROUGH APRIL...

MARCH AND APRIL HAVE BEEN UNUSUALLY DRY IN ATLANTA. WITH ONLY ONE
MORE DAY TO GO TO COMPLETE THE TWO MONTH PERIOD...IT APPEARS THE
COMBINED TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNT WILL BE 3.10 INCHES. THERE HAS BEEN
ONLY ONE MARCH THROUGH APRIL PERIOD WILL LESS RAIN. THAT WAS IN 1915
WHEN ONLY 2.36 INCHES FELL.

THE TOP TEN AMOUNTS...

1. 2.36 INCHES IN 1915
2. 3.10 INCHES IN 2007
3. 3.35 INCHES IN 1916
4. 3.37 INCHES IN 1887
5. 3.63 INCHES IN 1905
6. 3.85 INCHES IN 2004
7. 3.93 INCHES IN 1904
8. 4.46 INCHES IN 1999
9. 4.61 INCHES IN 1985
10. 4.62 INCHES IN 1986

WITH NO RAIN ANTICIPATED ANYWHERE IN THE STATE THROUGH MONDAY...THE
RANKINGS AT OTHER LOCATIONS SHOULD BE...

* 25TH DRIEST AT ATHENS... 5.53 INCHES (DRIEST WAS 1.92 IN 2004)
* 16TH DRIEST AT MACON... 3.64 INCHES (DRIEST WAS 2.12 IN 2004)
* 10TH DRIEST AT COLUMBUS... 6.39 INCHES (DRIEST WAS 2.26 IN 1967

Hard to imagine how the lake will be suffering this summer. We have not had a drought free summer it seems since the hurricane season of 2005.

it is interesting to note that all of the top dry mar-apr years at KATL equated to a normal or above precipitation pattern for may for the east in general and most of the SE

taking the top 5 years minus 2007 in the stats that dustin posted and rolling those years forward toward summer we get a very wet cool summer across the US. Just taking a glance at what they meant for hurricane season...gulf coast and east coast both took quite a few landfalling hits those years.
