| | Forecast for August 7th: Yesterday's vort max was able to produce some very wet thunderstorms over a few areas, while most of northern Idaho remained dry. Today, the vort max that produced those storms will move through the Idaho panhandle during the afternoon. Thunder chances were upped just slightly from yesterday since the best instability with this storm will be overhead. The computer model ngm brings another vort max close enough to produce some thunderstorms tomorrow, however since no other models are showing this, just a slight chance is expected. Sunny skies return as a deep trough sets up just to the northwest. Friday-Monday, thunderstorm chances were increased since computer models bring this trough directly into the area this keep it there through the extended.

| | Forecast for August 9th: Computer models have instability being pumped into the area through the extended. 3 storms are set to impact the area during the next 7 days. The first one will hit overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. Computer models show a strong vort max sliding across the Idaho panhandle by about 6am tomorrow. Ahead of this feature, instability will increase this afternoon. Very strong lift will push into the area by this evening producing scattered-numerous elevated thunderstorms. This storm has a good moisture connection, so thunderstorms will be wet. The strongest storms tonight will produce lightning, heavy rain, and some hail. Gusty winds should hold off until the vort max passes through. Daytime heating tomorrow may produce a thunderstorm or two, otherwise a nice cool mostly cloudy day is on tap. The second storm will brush the area On Saturday and Sunday. A few thunderstorms could form, however this storm is not as strong as tonight's storm. The third storm during this period will be the strongest. computer models show this storm has a deep trough offshore. This trough will slide eastward increasing thunderstorm chances each day with the most active day on next Thursday. Cold air will be found in the center of this trough, which will drop snow levels to between 2500-3000ft by Wednesday night and Thursday night.

| | Forecast for August 14th: Computer models are coming into agreement with this week's heat wave being the final for the year. With a weak La Nina currently in the Nino regions, colder and wetter weather will begin to take control. Monsoon moisture isn't quite in the past yet, however after Thursday, 80s will be gone for while or even for the rest of the year. After Wednesday's heat wave moves in, strong moisture, instability, lift will flow into the area. With this hot moist airmass crashing into colder air from the north, the stage is set for scatter-numerous thunderstorms with a few severe thunderstorms. The main threats with these severe storms will be large hail( due to the atmosphere being very cold aloft) and damaging winds( since the ground is so dry, heavy rain can easily produce down burst winds). All storms will be wet with some of them producing very heavy rain. While rain will help with the current fires south and east of the area, these storms have the potential to produce frequent lightning. Thunderstorms will begin at about 10am Thursday and will continue into the night over most of the area. A little light rain will remain on Friday as the storm moves into Montana, meanwhile another strong storm will push toward the area. Temperatures will drop another 10-15f as even colder air moves into the area. Severe weather is possible as well, details tomorrow due to weak computer model agreement. Rain will move in by Monday. Snow could fall down to 3000ft by Thursday night.
Today sunny high 86
