Dustin, your post makes no sense to me at all. Care to revise it?

The overall number of tornadoes may have went up over the past 50 years or however long you want to go back, but people are living in many more places and there are an exponential increase in numbers of chasers/spotters to see these storms when they happen. It's hard to say if tornadoes have really increased...

In Iowa, since 2000 we have only had 2 years that are above average in terms of numbers of tornadoes. But, those two years ('01 & '04) were more than twice above the average!
